The WVU Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that advances its philanthropic mission in support of the WVU community. In 2024, the Foundation raised a record $282.6 million. A total of 20,350 donors made 40,849 gifts to WVU from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024. Alumni comprised 8,536 of those donors.

There are over 210,000 WVU graduates worldwide. Chartered in 1873, the WVU Alumni Association helps alumni in 135 nations stay connected through signature events throughout the year, such as Homecoming, the Marmaduke Dent Benefit, Alumni Leadership Institute and HAIL West Virginia.
